In 2022, Cherie "Amora" Coles founded 2nd Chance Dog Rescue after recognizing the urgent need for animal rescue in the high desert area of the Antelope Valley. Fueled by her dedication to making a difference, she engaged with local community members, conducted a comprehensive needs assessment, and embarked on her journey to establish a non-profit organization aimed at saving animals from high-kill shelters.
Amora's commitment doesn't stop at animal rescue; she also passionately supports the Lancaster community through her full-time work in education. Her presence and dedication have not gone unnoticed, as she has been featured on KTLA multiple times, actively participates in community events, and manages her time balancing her responsibilities as a mother to her children and caretaker to her beloved dogs.
Meet Christine! She has spent her formative years in Lancaster, California learning about dogs, dog behavior and a little dog grooming from her mother, a previously adamant dog rescuer. Even when living in a small town house, she found a way to ensure she had a canine companion... or two. During her life she's had many dogs in her households from chihuahuas to large boxers and even an Armenian Gampr. With every dog , she's learned more and more about how to train and care for these animals. She has found it to be an adventure and a privilege to be able to train and rescue dogs throughout her life. Currently, she is a volunteer and foster with 2nd Chance Dog Rescue and she is having a great time continuing to learn and help these 4 legged friends find new forever homes.
Meet Noemi! She has always had a heart and house full of dogs but after sending her human children off to college she jumped headfirst into the shelter crisis and dog rescue world with both feet ! Her day job is in Corporate Legal Operations but she's blessed to work remotely which allows her the time to pursue her passion in saving dogs. She is thrilled to be a part of 2nd Chance's mission to rescue the large breed dogs that are over represented in euthanized rates in the shelters and find them forever homes. She supports the rescue in various ways, specializing in foster and adoption placements and engagement.
Meet Amy! She is a woman of multiple hats as a parent volunteer and substitute teacher for over 14 years in Renton and Bellevue, Washington, and now in Los Angeles. She loves her job and is a life-long learner with a servant's heart. She became interested in the Los Angeles area dog rescue world over a year ago when her eyes were opened to the overcrowded shelter crisis within the city. Perfectly wonderful and adoptable dogs being euthanized was heartbreaking to her and she wanted to find ways to help. Since then, she has continued to advocate, network and pledge for dogs to be rescued or adopted, donate to various rescues, and also began volunteering with 2nd Chance Dog Rescue in the Antelope Valley at their adoption events. Being with the dogs brings her so much joy! Aside from teaching and volunteering, She is a wife, mother, sister, and cat Mama. Her family has a beautiful nine-year old Lilac British Shorthair named Bianca.
Cynthia Schutt, a San Fernando native, begin rescuing dogs over 20 years ago. Her mission is to help create a world where companion animals have loving forever homes!
